In 2010, after the Vancouver Olympic games, a small group of people tried to get a club started in Columbia. For unknown reasons, that effort was unsuccessful. In 2012, a member of the Palmetto Curling Club contacted a couple of people in Columbia who had shown interest in starting a club in Columbia, to see if we could get a club started. Contact was made with the Plex Indoor Sports & Ice in Irmo. They were willing to work with the group to bring curling to Columbia. Unfortunately, due to schedules and other commitments, the group was not able to follow through with their plans at that time.
In early 2014, a message was sent out to the members of the Columbia Curling Club facebook group looking for a core group of individuals to lead the effort to try to establish a curling club in the Midlands. The Sochi Winter Olympics were approaching, and with the increased interest in curling that comes with the Olympics it was considered a good time to make another attempt at starting the club.
The club is currently still in its organizational phase and does not currently have any active leagues. The club hopes to be curling in the near future. Currently, the club is working on a variety of things that will need to be taken care of prior to starting to curl. These include:
